The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has congratulated Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Governor elect declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission yesterday in Ibadan.
In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde on Monday, the party congratulated its gubernatorial candidate, Oloye Bayo Adelabu and the Governor elect for a good race and a well fought battle at the polls, concluding that an election is not a do or die affair while respecting the declaration of the electoral umpire.
The Oyo Apc also appreciated its party faithful, supporters and voters in the recent National and State elections.
According to the Oyo APC spokesperson, “The elections have come and gone, won and lost and the people of Oyo State have spoken. We respect the INEC declaration of Engr. Seyi Makinde as the Governor elect and wish to congratulate him. Similarly, we commend the gallantry of Chief Adebayo Adelabu who gave a good account of not only himself but the APC in Oyo State. Our commendation also goes to all the victorious candidates in our party.
“Meanwhile, we will watch developments and use this opportunity to appeal to our party members and supporters to be calm and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner as the unprecedented eight year tenure of the APC led by Governor Abiola Ajimobi has been a season of peace, safety and security which yielded monumental developments in various sectors of the state’s economy,” Dr Olatunde added.
The party’s statement also decried and condemned the recent spate of violence witnessed in the last 48 hours in the state, emphasizing that it would be unfortunate if the state returns to the era of violence, brigandage and chaos with the turn of the PDP being in charge.
It further reminded the perpetrators of violence that the APC government is still in charge of the state and no one should seize the opportunity of victory at the polls to take laws into their hands.

‘Employ Creative Ways To Increase IGR Instead Of Downsizing’ Makinde Tells Governors

The gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde has berated the Governors’ Forum for threatening to sack workers before it can implement the ₦ 30,000 minimum wage in their respective states.
In a statement signed by the Director of Communication and Strategy, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the candidate said that while it is true that Governor Ajimobi of Oyo state has been consistent in his threat to reduce the workforce and had made good on this in the past, what the Governors’ Forum should have prioritised are improved dialogue with the workers, employ more creative ways to increase internally generated revenues and intensify efforts on the Federal government and the National Assembly to review the National Revenue Formula in favour of the states.
Engr Seyi Makinde said that with good husbanding of Oyo State” resources, the blocking of all financial loopholes, improved Internally Generated Revenue initiatives and freedom from the shackles of huge loan servicing, Oyo State can live comfortably within its means.
He went further to re-iterate that his government will lead the way in galvanising others in the fight for resource control saying that our mineral resources such as granite and marble will be used to revolutionise development.
Engr Makinde frowned at the comments of those who are clamouring for the continuity of Governor Ajimobi’s legacy. He said the masses are desirous of fresh ideas that make people the pillar of government policies and not “contract induced infrastuctures that benefit only the rich and the privileged, most of whom repatriate the financial proceeds to their base which unfortunately is not Oyo State”.
Shooting Stars Woe; ‘hold the government responsible’ -Seyi Makinde

The People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has expressed disappointment at the humiliation being experienced by the Shooting Stars Sports Club of Oyo State as a result of what he described as “negligence by the state government”.
Speaking through the spokesman for his campaign organisation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Makinde said that the state government and not the management of the club must be held responsible if the club fails to come back to the top flight and remains relegated this season.
The PDP candidate said he was “sad to learn of the dubious 2-1 defeat to Insurance Football Club of Edo State in a very crucial match that was attended by the Deputy Governor of Edo State whereas, no senior government official accompanied our team to a match that could define its future”.
Engr Makinde said that if the state government had not neglected the club, starved it of necessary funds and abandoned it to the manipulations of other clubs, the match may not have been allowed to go on for 20 extra minutes after the draw at full time. Engr Makinde said with the known reputation of the Shooting Stars, the club should be in an unassailable position now, secure in the top flight instead of having to depend on playing the unpredictable Super 8 to secure a place in the prestigious league.
He asked the state government to do everything possible to make sure that the club is not relegated again and promised once again that when he becomes governor of the state next year, Shooting Stars will compete successfully for continental honours by 2021.
