ZENITH BANK TO PARTNER READAMANA TO ENLARGE ICT COMPETTION, DISCOVER MORE KATHERINE ETAS

Zenith Bank is to partner with ReadAmana to encourage participation by more students in the annual Microsoft Office Specialist Championship, Group Managing Director, Peter Amangbo has said.

Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday while receiving the Nigerian contingent to the 2017 edition of the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (MOSWC) held in Disneyland, California, USA, Amangbo said the bank was encouraged by the performance of the team and would work with the Nigerian organisers to enlarge the competition.

Katherine Eta of Childville School, Ogudu, Lagos last week emerged the third place winner in the keenly contested 2017 World Championship, the only African winner in the competition.

Nigeria was represented at this year’s championship with the support of Zenith Bank Plc. by Katherine, Husna Bello, Glisten International Academy, Abuja, FCT; Ogon Holdings, Deeper Life High School, Port Harcourt, Rivers State; Adeniran Oluwatamilore, Louisville Girls High School, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State; Oloriegbe Favour, Childville Schools, Ogudu, Lagos and David Eta, Childville Schools, Ogudu, Lagos, Lagos State.

Amangbo, who received the team in the bank’s Head Office on Victoria Island, said the objective of the competition aligns perfectly well with the bank’s strategy on corporate social responsibility, which has at its core, youth empowerment through Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

“It was good to hear something refreshing coming from Nigeria. From that perspective we are indeed pleased that our children can actually distinguish themselves in such a global event,” he said.

Amangbo also said: “I want to assure you that for us in Zenith, technology is what we are known for. When it comes to supporting the younger ones, when it comes to initiatives like this, we are willing to partner with others like you to make ICT education accessible.

“Our own objective is to see how we can spread this to more children to have the opportunity not just in this part of the world but almost all over, and i believe that over time we can extend it to children outside Lagos, help the growth of ICT,” he added.

He promised the bank’s support for the planned enlargement of the competition to enable more students take part in the Nigerian competition and earn the chance to represent the country in future world championships.

The annual Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship is a global competition that tests students’ skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The 2017 MOSWC in versions 2013 and 2016 of the Microsoft programs was contested worldwide by about 1.1 million students from 140 countries. 157 students from 50 countries eventually qualified to compete in the world finals in Disneyland, California.

ReadAmana, which organises the Nigerian competition, has already declared its intention to enlarge the competition. “You know you will be able to stand and be able to do more things, it is a solid foundation in this ICT world because today, digital literacy is the language of the economy, so if you don’t know how to speak this language you are at a disadvantage, so we decided to start at the grassroots, work with the schools so that these children can have the right foundation and from there, they can move on to more advanced computer certification and knowledge,” Edna Agusto, Read Amana Chair had said when the team to this year’s championship returned to Nigeria on Saturday.

Agusto said the organisation intends to capitalise on the publicity that Katherine’s exploits at this year’s championship generated to get more schools to embrace the competition. She commended the bank for the long-standing partnership with her organisation and the reception organised for the Nigerian contingent at the Murtala International Airport, Lagos and the publicity that has attended the team’s success.

This year’s national competition was held over a period of 7 months between 1 August, 2016 and 30 April, 2017 with about 882 entries from 20 Secondary Schools in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kwara States and the FCT. The competition ended with 112 out of the 161 students shortlisted for the national competition certified in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

For her exploits at the world championship, sixteen year old Katherine received $1,500, a NuVision Solo 10 Draw Tablet at the world championship and another N750,000 ReadManna Chairman’s Prize.
The Zenith Bank GMD announced additional cash prizes to the award-winning Katherine (N750,000) and her teacher Mrs. Rukayat Adebayo (N250,000), who had earlier won a N250,000 ReadAmana Chairman’s cash prize.

 • Tunde Ednut, the former musician turned Instagram media mogul, is estimated to earn over $5,000 a day through his platform — with a business model based on affiliate promotion, Instagram advertising, and music amplification.
 • The hit podcast “I Said What I Said” (ISWIS) reportedly made approximately $200,000 in gross revenue from live events alone in a single month, drawing thousands of fans across there US, the UK and Canada.

As part of his address, Jideonwo announced his $500,000 personal commitment to the FourthMainland Creator Fund — a catalytic investment vehicle to back high-potential African creators with funding, IP support, and platform distribution.
“We’re building the Mavin Records of storytelling,” he said. “Not just with fame, but with financial tools, ownership, and a full studio system that lets creators scale across the continent and diaspora.”
The Creator Fund is part of the broader FourthMainland ecosystem, a creator commerce platform set to launch in 2026. The platform will offer monetization tools, subscription infrastructure, and joint-IP models built around African content — positioning it as the first at-scale infrastructure for the continent’s growing $100B creator economy.
Jideonwo, whose ventures include Joy, Inc., #WithChude, and YNaija, closed with a call to funders and policymakers:
“If music had Mavin Records and tech had CcHub, then creators now have their studio systems — their Mavins — and they’re building billion-dollar value chains without waiting for permission.”
The keynote, titled “Overtaking is Allowed,” argued that Africa’s most important civic and cultural shifts today are being led by independent creators, and that media-tech infrastructure for creators is now one of the biggest opportunities for economic growth across the continent.

In the audio, Fijabi, an Ibadan high Chief and singer, Wasiu Ayinde’s closest ally bared his thoughts on political bearings in Oyo State and centred it round the Minister for Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

The audio quickly gained traction, sparking laughter and debate across social media platforms in Oyo and beyond.

The audio briefly overshadowed Adelabu’s image and critics seized the moment to question his ability, business sense and highlight potential vulnerabilities in managing grassroots affairs.

Even before the audio, Adelabu’s return to APC and flirtation with a 2027 run had unsettled internal party dynamics. The audio gave fuel to factions already uneasy about his rapid elevation and perceived attempt at imposition.

APC hardliners and youth groups, who’ve openly criticized the party’s handling of aspirants like Adelabu, echoed that the viral moment underscores deeper frustration about favoritism .

Fijabi in the audio also shed some lights based on what he termed ‘reliable information’ on Governor Makinde’s Presidential ambition, claiming it was a plot to collapse the PDP in Oyo State for President Tinubu with an agreement that the Governor would be granted the request to install a successor.

The clip audio shifted part of the conversation from Adelabu’s technocratic record to his public persona. Analysts say managing optics now matters more than ever for his brand.
