2019; ‘I Will Boost Oyo IGR, Plug Loopholes Of Fraud’ Seyi Makinde
The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has said that lack of political will and deliberate government policies to cheat the system by those in power are the reasons the state’s economy has not improved.
According to a statement issued from his gubernatorial campaign office and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the candidate said this while receiving delegates from Oke Ogun who thronged his office in appreciation of the choice of Engr. Remi Olaniyan as his running mate.
The PDP candidate referred to his Manifesto titled ‘Oyo State Roadmap For Accelerated Development, 2019-2023’ in which he enumerated his plans to make the state economically viable.
“Coming from a successful business background, I have, in concert with my team worked out the best and durable ways to lift the state up from a debt-ridden entity to a rich and self sustaining one.
The N1.4bn Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by the state can be improved upon drastically if we provide an easier template for businesses to be established and function in the state” Makinde said.
In the Ease of Doing Business category, Engr Makinde said that he is always unhappy when he sees oyo state permanently second to the last among all the 36 states in the federation especially in the past seven years and wondered why anyone would say such legacy must continue.
He averred that billions of needed naira is lost and the resultant debt borrowing is transferred to tired and vulnerable citizens.
“I will ensure that the protocol and red-tapism for starting a business in our state is reduced to the barest minimum instead of the current long-drawn period, while we’ll be flexible and ensure that every single business passes through the state’s Board of Internal Revenue Services for effective monitoring and taxation. I will also make sure that the staff of the board are motivated enough while plugging all loopholes for fraud.”
Makinde said that without waiting for Federal Allocation, the state will use its internally generated resources to tackle youth unemployment in the state and concentrate more on policies that have direct bearing on the sufferings of the people rather than ego-serving and selective infrastructural development. He opined that his policies are people-centred because the people of the state are suffering untold hardship in the hands of ruling All Progressives Congress, particularly the irregular payment of civil servant salaries, underfunded education sector despite the increase in school fees and other unfriendly policies of APC in Oyo State.

What Ibadan Socialite, Fijabi’s Leak Audio Has Done To Minister Adelabu’s Guber Ambition
A recent viral moment has unexpectedly stirred the political waters for Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu’s 2027 gubernatorial bid in Oyo State. Here’s how it unfolded—and the fallout that followed:
An audio featuring Ibadan socialite, Chief Akinade Fijabi and an unidentified young man surfaced online.
In the audio, Fijabi, an Ibadan high Chief and singer, Wasiu Ayinde’s closest ally bared his thoughts on political bearings in Oyo State and centred it round the Minister for Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
The audio quickly gained traction, sparking laughter and debate across social media platforms in Oyo and beyond.
The audio briefly overshadowed Adelabu’s image and critics seized the moment to question his ability, business sense and highlight potential vulnerabilities in managing grassroots affairs.
Even before the audio, Adelabu’s return to APC and flirtation with a 2027 run had unsettled internal party dynamics. The audio gave fuel to factions already uneasy about his rapid elevation and perceived attempt at imposition.
APC hardliners and youth groups, who’ve openly criticized the party’s handling of aspirants like Adelabu, echoed that the viral moment underscores deeper frustration about favoritism .
Adelabu’s allies are downplaying the audio, arguing that public interactions reflect openness and a grassroots presence and qualities essential for statewide appeal. They’ve also pointed to his achievements, including boosting national grid capacity, as evidence of credible leadership .
Fijabi in the audio also shed some lights based on what he termed ‘reliable information’ on Governor Makinde’s Presidential ambition, claiming it was a plot to collapse the PDP in Oyo State for President Tinubu with an agreement that the Governor would be granted the request to install a successor.
The clip audio shifted part of the conversation from Adelabu’s technocratic record to his public persona. Analysts say managing optics now matters more than ever for his brand.
