‘I slotted the construction of Eruwa road into the budget, govt didn’t drop a dime’ Oyo Speaker, Ogundoyin’s Statement Creates Political Storm

‘ Oloun, Ijoba o fi 1Naira sile, gbogbo ona ta shey, owo mi ni mo na!’ The Speaker of the Oyo House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin made this statement in Yoruba where he alleged that the Government did not approve the construction of Eruwa road and that he spent his personal money on the road, in fact he claimed to have actually smuggled the construction into the budget.

This revelation is causing ripples in Oyo State political space with the opposition having a field day, taunting Governor Seyi Makinde with the awkward revelation from the Speaker.

Political pundits had earlier predicted doom for the Speaker, son of late billionaire, Chief Adeseun Ogundoyin as it was reported that his kinsmen had threatened a show down, alleging he influenced nothing meaningful towards the town in their four years administration.

The Speaker who was trying to absolve himself of any blame was spotted under a tree meeting with his constituents where he informed them of the role he played.

The video circulated like a wildfire and there was absence in the camp of Governor Seyi Makinde indicating that the Governor’s handlers adopted silence as a mode of crisis management.

It was later revealed that the Governor approved and released mobilization funds for the construction of the road some days after the video went viral.

The fate of the Oyo Assembly Speaker, Debo Ogundoyin hangs in the balance as neither the Governor nor his kinsmen are revealing their next move toward his re election.

Shock, Surprise In Ibadan As Tinubu’s Aide Sunday Dare Becomes Ministerial Nominee

It was with shock and utter disbelief that political pundits and players in Oyo State got the news that Sunday Dare, an ex Chief of Staff to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was favoured as the Ministerial nominee from the State.

To those in the know, Dare is not in the political formation of the State. His nomination sent a wave of shock through political camps all over the state.

Earlier before the announcement, names of top politicians, Bayo Adelabu, Joseph Tegbe, Dr Olusola Ayansina and former Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi were being touted as would-be Ministers while the former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu also assured his supporters of his strong conviction to beat others to the post.

All these went down the drain with Dare’s nomination and people started raising eyebrows, weighing the factors that threw him up.

A source confided in papermacheonline that Sunday Dare is indeed a candidate of Tinubu, but that he wouldn’t have been able to pull it without the strong support of ex Governor Ajimobi.

There were beliefs in certain quarters that Ajimobi had a hand in his nomination as they cited his remarks when he said ‘I don’t want to be Minister, I’m only interested in going back to the Senate’.

It was further revealed that the ministerial nominee who hails from Ogbomoso had started some empowerment programmes in Oyo State long before the last election.

The permutation was that with a ministerial appointment, Dare would be able to garner more influence that would enable him run for Governor in 2023.

His nomination is said to have thrown the APC in the State in disarray as members were of high hopes that one of the titans of the party would eventually emerge in the party’s interest.

Sunday Dare is the Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commission. Until his appointment he was the convener of the Social Media Clinic and a former Chief of Staff/Special Adviser to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Oyo APC congratulates Seyi Makinde, thanks voters

The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has congratulated Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Governor elect declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission yesterday in Ibadan.

In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde on Monday, the party congratulated its gubernatorial candidate, Oloye Bayo Adelabu and the Governor elect for a good race and a well fought battle at the polls, concluding that an election is not a do or die affair while respecting the declaration of the electoral umpire.

The Oyo Apc also appreciated its party faithful, supporters and voters in the recent National and State elections.

According to the Oyo APC spokesperson, “The elections have come and gone, won and lost and the people of Oyo State have spoken. We respect the INEC declaration of Engr. Seyi Makinde as the Governor elect and wish to congratulate him. Similarly, we commend the gallantry of Chief Adebayo Adelabu who gave a good account of not only himself but the APC in Oyo State. Our commendation also goes to all the victorious candidates in our party.

“Meanwhile, we will watch developments and use this opportunity to appeal to our party members and supporters to be calm and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner as the unprecedented eight year tenure of the APC led by Governor Abiola Ajimobi has been a season of peace, safety and security which yielded monumental developments in various sectors of the state’s economy,” Dr Olatunde added.

The party’s statement also decried and condemned the recent spate of violence witnessed in the last 48 hours in the state, emphasizing that it would be unfortunate if the state returns to the era of violence, brigandage and chaos with the turn of the PDP being in charge.

It further reminded the perpetrators of violence that the APC government is still in charge of the state and no one should seize the opportunity of victory at the polls to take laws into their hands.
