Inmates Beg Lamido, Sons For Ramadan Meal

The arrival of the former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido and his two sons, Mustapha and Aminu in Abuja prison was greeted by wild jubilation from inmates in the Abuja prison.

Lamido and sons are facing trial in a case filed by the EFCC for money laundering, abuse of public office and subtle bribery amounting to N1.351billion.

The trio were ordered to be remanded in Kano prison last week when Justice Evelyn Anyadike adjourned the case to September 28 for formal trial.

The ex-Governor and his sons were for unknown reasons moved from the Kano prisons to Abuja prison.

A source informed papermacheonline that officials of the Abuja prison were scared when they got an information that the politician and his two sons have been transfered based on the fact that the facility is presently filled with boko haram suspects who are awaiting trials.

But their fears were said to have vanished when some of these inmates identified the suspects and began shouting their names, welcoming them to the prison in Hausa language.

Lamido and his sons were said to have been moved to a clean cell where they were said to have observed their prayers immediately they arrived.

It was said that the noise of ‘ka ba mun abinchin’ which translates to ‘help us with food’ enveloped the prison yard when it was time to break the fast.

The ex-Governor and his sons were said to have made arrangement for their meals with a warder and ignored the pleas of the inmates who are mostly boko haram suspects.

The suspects were said to have been moved to Abuja prison for reasons based on the efforts by their lawyers who are working out modalities to secure a bail for them in a Federal High Court in Abuja which is to be presided over by a Vacation Judge today.
