‘I was the victim, not the attacker’ – Segun Adewale

The ugly incident that snowballed into a full scale violence today between the supporters of the PDP and APC Senatorial candidates for Lagos West, Honourable Segun Adewale (Aeroland) and Honourable Olalekan Adeola Solomon (Yayi) has turned into a matter of accusations and counter-accusations.
Reacting to the probe by Papermacheonline today, Saturday 31st January, 2015 a very livid Segun Adewale revealed that he was the one attacked and not the attacker as it was reported by a handful of online platforms.
Segun Adewale who spoke on phone with Papermache disclosed that he was on a peaceful campaign with his supporters when they passed through the campaign office of his APC opponents and his thugs and security men descended on them unleashing violence that lasted for almost an hour. The CEO of Aeroland Travels tells Papermache ‘please come around and see things for yourself. My supporters, about twenty in numbers are in hospital receiving treatment, I was shot at! It was God that saved me. I heard that they were saying they own the State, that the Governor and Asiwaju Tinubu had presented him the flag and they must prove to us, please help me ask, why must we resolve to violence ? What point were they trying to prove?’.
To further corroborate the story and the graphic details Segun Adewale was trying to give, his campaign office sent us an email, a copy we provide below…
‘We are responding to the propaganda trending in the media by Honourable Olamilekan Adeola Solomon of the APC that his office was attacked this evening with gun shots fired by Honourable Segun Adewale as false and a fiction to dent the image of our principal to score cheap political points basically for the understanding that we are gaining grounds in our campaign to clinch the Lagos West Senatorial position.
We have seen pictures been circulated on social media claiming our supporters unleashed mayhem on his campaign office which we dare say are malicious and a well prepared script prepared by Olamilekan Adeola Yayi to discredit an innocent Honourable Segun Adewale who was going about the lawful process of his campaign.
The truthful account is as follow… our campaign team was returning from a massive and peaceful rally we held from Ajeromi Ifelodun to Ikeja where our convoy passing through Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja was attacked with several gun shots fired by Honourable Olamilekan Solomon’s supporters and his security people. It was the vehicle of Honourable Segun Adewale that was attacked and our security team led by the Nigerian Police Force shielded his vehicle from the attackers and the shots fired at him to ensure his safety.
Shots were fired by his supporters at many of our vehicle which were severally damaged but we never retaliated. The supposed pictures of the vehicle been circulated on the Social media we dare to say does not belong to Olamilekan Adeola Iyayi and neither was parked at his office, or why can’t the full picture of the vehicle be shown with the number plate?
Nonetheless our team of security men led by the Nigerian Police Force were able to avert a major attempt on the life of Honourable Segun Adewale. The news been circulated on the social media is quite demeaning of such a person of the calibre of Honourable Olamilekan Adeola Solomon whom we believe is a gentleman, a Federal Lawmaker who should know better but has shown that he lacks decorum, decency that proves how desperate he is to win the elections by going the way of spreading malicious propaganda against our principal.
We have filed a detailed report of the incident to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ikeja and investigation has commenced and we will see to it that justice prevails on the matter.
This is the third time we would be attacked by his supporters. Some days ago, our campaign office in Iyana Ipaja was also attacked by thugs working for Honourable Olamilekan Adeola Solomon.
We would like to state for all to know that Honourable Segun Adewale abhors violence in any way or of any kind and frowns at such with all passion.
We would like to also say to our supporters at this point not to engage in any form of reprisal on this ugly incident but rather to seek peace that we are known for.
Honourable Segun Adewale is safe and well and we give thanks to God as the attempt on his life failed.
In the words of Martin Luther King Jr. “We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence.”
